State primary schools in the UK can apply for the Happy By Nature Fund – Ten pilot schools will receive a grant of £10,000 each, plus expert guidance from Learning through Landscapes, empowering them to develop nature-rich school grounds with input from specialist designers.
They are keen to work with schools where their outdoor space is in particular need of improvement and who demonstrate understanding and commitment to the ongoing use and maintenance of the outdoor space and particularly keen to work with schools in Bradford, Swansea, Glasgow
and Southampton.
This project requires a significant commitment to, and input into, the project from the school. Applications for the Happy By Nature grant fund are open to schools which are:
• State-funded Primary, Infant or Junior Schools in the UK.
• Identified by staff as having a lack of quality green outdoor space.
• Able to demonstrate senior leadership support for improving outdoor play provisions, and to the ongoing maintenance of the work, in their application.
• Able to commit to allocating time for pupils and staff to be included in the planning and implementation of the project.
• Able to commit to an ongoing utilisation of the outdoor space.
• Available to implement the project from November 2025–November 2026.
• Secondary schools, Further or Higher education providers or standalone Early Years settings (such as nurseries or playgroups.)
• Schools in England which have received National Education Nature Park funding.
