If your home is not well maintained, it can affect your safety and health.
Issues like damaged flooring, loose carpets, faulty electrics, damp, mould and poor ventilation can increase the risk of trips, falls, fires and other health problems. A home in poor condition can also be harder to heat, which can make existing health conditions worse.
Financial assistance for homeowners with home improvements and repairs
If you’re a homeowner on a low income and need repairs like fixing a leaking roof, faulty wiring, replacing old kitchens or bathrooms, or installing central heating, the council may be able to help.
Insulate your attic room or receive solar PV and battery storage for free
Grants are currently available in some parts of Bradford district to help insulate attic rooms with a fixed staircase, for those who qualify.
Disabled Facilities Grant
Disabled Facilities Grants are available to help people with disabilities live more independently. They can fund home adaptations to support independence. For children, the grant is only means‑tested if the cost may be over £30,000.
Renting a home – Advice for tenants
If you rent your home, your landlord is responsible for making sure it is safe and healthy to live in. If you’re having trouble getting them to carry out needed repairs, the Council’s Housing Standards Team may be able to help.
Getting help if you’re struggling
If you’re struggling to pay your rent or mortgage, afford essential household items, or manage the cost of living, the council may be able to offer support or direct you to help
