Who can access us
A child/young person can access the service if they are:
- Aged 2-19 years old
- Above a healthy weight. You can use the NHS BMI Calculator to work this out: BMI Calculator for Children and Teenagers
- Live in the Bradford District
- Ready and able to changes to improve their health and wellbeing
- Have the support of a parent or carer
- Understand that responsibility for monitoring and medical management weight related health conditions must remain with the child or young person’s GP.
A child/young person cannot access the service if they are:
- Already engaged in a specialist weight management service
- Have an underlying weight-related genetic syndrome, e.g. Prader-Willis, Bardet-Biedi, Fragile X
- Unstable thyroid disease
- Iatrogenic causes of obesity (e.g. pituitary surgery)
- on a modified texture diet or have other specialist feeding requirements
- Have a diagnosed eating disorder requiring specialist treatment
- Are experiencing significant mental health issues that would limit their participation in a health and wellbeing programme that requires them to make changes
- Is currently using weight loss medication
Note: Children with a physical/learning disability will be considered on a case-by-case basis
