Mosques, Mountains & Muhammed

We all know the saying if the mountain will not come Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain…

Recently, mosques in Keighley expressed concerns that their community was delaying access to health investigations and had limited understanding or knowledge of health support and messages.

Thanks to community leaders reaching out, Living Well teamed up with Modality Partnership to offer Keighley’s mosque community health checks and health advice. The pilot scheme was designed to deliver positive health impacts to make a difference to individuals and their families by talking to people in a setting where they felt comfortable.

We know that 35% of South Asian adults have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and 19% with type 2 diabetes. But that’s not the story. The Mosque roadshow really helped signpost over 300 people to local health and wellness support available to them, so individuals could make informed choices about their own health.

Recognising that existing communication and health signposting on the Living Well website and social media simply wasn’t reaching the local community the team visited Keighley’s UKIM Madinah, Shahjalal Jamia Masjid & Quraniah, Markazi Jamia Masjid, and Al-Hidaayah Foundation Mosques.

Working  with GP surgeries, we are looking forward to continuing this community outreach work, to deliver better health outcomes across all the Bradford District.
