Living Well Heroes Gill and Peter

Gill & Peter’s story:

We’ve been very active in lockdown, doing a weekly zoom quiz with our friends and family, enjoying ourselves and generally keeping busy.

Gill started a painting class at Keighley Healthy Living earlier this year before lockdown, and has continued to paint at home. Using online tutorials, she has learned more about using watercolours and acrylics and has found it’s really helped as it keeps your mind busy.

Peter has always been an avid reader and during lockdown decided to write his own trilogy of books!

Walking Rosie everyday helps them to stay fit and gives their mental wellbeing a boost. It doesn’t matter how old you are, staying active is vital to your wellbeing. If you can’t get out and about or have mobility issues, there are lots of resources available to help you be active in your home.

Gill and Peter’s hints, tips and ideas:

  • Make sure you are busy, having lots to do helps to boost your mood and stay on top of your mental health.
  • Go for a walk everyday if possible, it helps to keep you fit and more importantly, as you get older it means you are more likely to stay mobile for longer.
  • If you can’t get outside there are lots of exercises you can do even whilst sitting.
  • Start a new hobby – you’re never too old to learn something new.
  • Talk to your friends and family as often as you can, staying connected is such a lifeline if you can’t actually be together.
