Living Well Faith Settings

Living Well and Born in Bradford formed a unique partnership to explore the opportunities for working with Islamic religious settings, in particular Madrasas to tackle health and wellbeing in childhood.

The work focuses on healthy weight by supporting healthier behaviours and influencing positive social and structural change for better health in the local environment.

The Living Well Faith Settings Programme adapted according to the local needs while working in a ‘whole-systems’ approach and has registered an umbrella group of local health champions, Faith in Communities, to facilitate the implementation of healthy behaviours in culturally confident and component ways.

Living Well Faith Settings Toolkit

To enable Islamic religious settings to develop an approach to wellbeing, a toolkit has been created which is free for people to use.

This Living Well Faith Settings toolkit is a result of voluntary contributions by community members, leaders and staff in madrasas, parents of children attending madrasas, and local community organisations collaboratively working among teams of researchers and practitioners. This toolkit is a true example of how co-production works and how evidence-based health policies can be translated into a programme of action in culturally sensitive ways to improve health outcomes in ethnic minoritised populations in the UK.
