From the age of 40 we lose muscle, which affects how our bodies work in everyday life. Strengthening activity is very important as it helps us to stay active and independent, especially later in life.
It can also improve our mood, help with healthy weight, improve sleep, increase self-confidence, appearance and overall general wellbeing.
If you have a health condition it can help you to manage it, reduce other risk factors and lower your risk of other conditions.
Strengthening activity is for everyone, but it’s particularly important for people 40 years and older. For women, strengthening activity can help to manage menopause symptoms and improve wellbeing. It also helps with bone health and healthy weight.
Build strengthening activity into everyday life, at home, outdoors, or through structured exercise. Aim to do strengthening exercises at least twice a week, on top of your daily physical activity.
