Climate Action

The Climate Action page is dedicated to supporting schools in making meaningful steps towards environmental sustainability, integrated into health and wellbeing for children and young people.

On this page, you can find:

Eco-Council Resources

Case studies

The resources will support schools in embedding climate action within policies, add links within the curriculum and establish a wider school culture embodying greener habits. A key part of this approach is nurturing pupil leadership and voice through Eco Councils, which provide a valuable opportunity for pupils to lead on sustainability projects and influence decision-making.

This guidance aims to help schools recognise and strengthen the dual value of Eco Councils as tools for environmental action and as a structured way to strengthen pupil voice. Bringing together climate action, wellbeing and pupil-led solutions to social challenges.

National Education Nature Park - Programme

The National Education Nature Park programme empowers children and young people to make a positive difference to both their own and to nature’s future, through connecting to nature while developing vital skills and boosting biodiversity.

Children and young people are leading the way creating a network of green spaces at schools, nurseries and colleges across England. From digging ponds and building green walls, to mapping and caring for their spaces, they make improvements to make the ‘grey’ areas a little bit greener. Every small act makes a big impact, by monitoring wildlife on their sites, seeing the collective difference they are making on an online map and contributing to scientific research on nature recovery.

Clean Air School's Education Programme

Clean Air School’s Education Programme is tailored and designed with activities and interventions that cater for different ages, groups, abilities and interests carried out within a learning environment.
The activities are stimulating and engaging for children, enabling them to explore their environment whilst learning and taking into consideration measures to take in improving air quality and reduce emissions.
The programme has an educational enrichment which integrates educational components that supports a child’s academic learning through critical and creative thinking which is aligned with the national curriculum.
Breathe Better Bradford page has resources, activities and information on air quality and measures residents, schools and children from Bradford can carry out.

Count Your Carbon

Count Your Carbon is the nation’s first free, full-scope carbon emissions calculator, built for and in collaboration with nurseries, schools and colleges. It supports educational settings to calculate, understand, reduce and track their carbon emissions.

Once registered, you’ll be asked to answer a series of questions about your operations. Connect with your site, business and canteen manager to access the key information. This data will then be used to produce a breakdown of your indicative carbon footprint across 11 areas. Your report can then be shared with key stakeholders to inspire and guide action.

Solar for Schools

We'll review your roofs to determine solar capacity and energy yield, and we'll ask for two things: your consumption data and the price you're paying your current energy supplier, per kWh unit. This helps us calculate how much of the solar generated by the panels will be consumed by the school.
This is not a 'one size fits all' approach.

We work with schools of all sizes and types, and we approach each project differently, depending on its needs and objectives.

We look at your funding options - such as local grants - and we compare alternative options to meet your short and long term goals, considering risk and return.

Some schools want to own their systems outright, while for others that is not an option so they look to us to fully-fund the system. Many schools choose something in-between.
