You don’t have to join a gym or need fancy trainers, play your favourite music and have a disco at home! Do 10 star jumps and 10 squats every time the adverts are on the TV! Take the kids to the park and have a game of Tig! It’s easy and everyone can take part!
There are lots of fun things to do in Bradford district. There’s a fantastic range of free activities and events to choose from including live music, exciting exhibitions, beautiful walks and much more.
Four circular paths that are each one mile long were designed to inspire more people to walk, jog, or run around the city. You can easily find them, just look for the distinctive green markers placed at regular intervals in the ground and signs placed at points around each loop.

We have some fantastic museums and galleries in Bradford district. From the Baroque splendour of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, the Industrial Museum where you can watch machinery from the past brought to life and the spectacular building of Keighley’s Cliffe Castle Museum, there is always something new to do or see, and admission to all of them is free!
The NHS website offers a range of free instructor-led exercise videos, including aerobic exercises, strength and resistance training, pilates and yoga. Why not give a class a go from the comfort of your home?
In many of our parks and greenspaces, you can find outdoor fitness equipment that’s free to use. Visit the park’s website and use the drop-down menu to choose ‘outdoor equipment’. The map will add markers showing where you can find parks near you that have this equipment. Please read and follow the instructions on each piece of apparatus to use them safely.
We are really lucky to have so many glorious parks. From small community parks, ideal for a game of bowls or letting the kids burn energy in play areas, to larger spaces of natural beauty that are bustling with wildlife, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. Some parks also have historical monuments and architecture.

This village is known for its rich industrial history and sits at one of the highest points in the region offering panoramic views. The Great Northern Railway Trail, a disused railway track with viaduct is great for cycling and walking from Cullingworth to Queensbury along with beautiful woodland walks in parks. It’s also famous for the Black Dyke Band, one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world.
Find a list of free to use, multi-purpose recreational grounds that can be used for a range of outdoor sports across the district.
A sloped area of woodland and rocks close to Saltaire that is great for an afternoon of exploration for the whole family. It was extremely popular in the late 1800s when there was a Victorian theme park!
You can also find Shipley Glen Tramway which opened in 1895. It’s Britain’s oldest working cable-hauled tramway, now restored and run by volunteers. You can ride the trams up and down a steep wooded hill for a small fare and visit the museum at the bottom station where you can learn about its history.
Many of Bradford’s parks have tennis courts. You can bring your own equipment along and play with your friends and family for free.
The University of Bradford run a series of events throughout the year to share and gain knowledge, bring communities together, and influence positive change.

There are so many fabulous walks in and around Bradford district, from urban to rural and gentle to invigorating, there’s something for everyone. You could arrange a walk with friends and family, take a picnic and explore!
Some villages in Bradford district create real life advent calendars with shops and local people displaying at least one new decorated window every day from 1st to 24th December.
The Saltaire Living Advent Calendar has been a feature of the village since 2006. You can find an interactive online map showing where the windows will be and it’s a great way to have a walk with family and friends and see if you can spot them all!
Take a walk to your local youth centre where young people can participate in physical activities including football, basketball, dodgeball and badminton.
